I first met Will at a Fashion design intensive program at Parsons, early last summer. It was clear from day one that Will had talent, and I'm proud to share some of his sketches, design philosophy, and thoughts in general about the mad world of fashion!
I love the atmosphere you get being around creative people and seeing the sort of work they are doing. Everyone has a different sense of style so its fun to see what other people think is fashionable and what 'works'. I was worried when I first came that everyone would be your stereotyped fashion student I.e. Unapproachable, cold and unwelcoming but I the trick is to not belive the hype. Everyone is lovely and we all get along really well.
When did you know you wanted to be a fashion designer?
I started sketching shoes around the age of 3 and my grandmother still has pages and pages of my designs to this day. I was fascinated with the colours, styles and patterns etc... So I think it was probably then when my interest for fashion started. I still enjoy shoes but not I am more interested in clothing, however I wouldn't rule out accessories!
Who and what inspires you?
I love looking at the 50's and 60's for inspiration as they seem like such timeless and fashionable eras. They simply ooze elegance and everything about them ticks the boxes for me. Also, looking at what the big brands are putting down the runway is great and really acts as a great pointer to the level we, as young designers, should be aiming for.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I would love to work for a well established designer and then set up my own brand afterwards. I think it could be very exciting working with some italians brands and would be great to have an influence on the future collection.
